FIT GUIDE
SIZING
Sizing across eras and brands is inconsistent. To find the best fit, we recommend that you compare our listed measurements to those of a similar garment you have at home. You can also use the search function (top right corner of every page) to find items in your general size by searching for the terms XS, small, medium, large, XL, XXL, etc.
We take all measurements of the item laid flat; we recommend you do, too. Please don't hesitate to contact us with questions!
HOW TO MEASURE (SEE ILLUSTRATIONS BELOW)
- Shoulder: Across the back from shoulder seam to shoulder seam
- Chest: Across the front from armpit seam to armpit seam and doubled
- Waist: Across the waistband and doubled
- Hip: Across the widest part of hip/butt (usually at the bottom of the fly) and doubled
- Sleeve: Outer measurement from the shoulder seam to wrist
- Length of Shirt/Dress: From the highest point of the shoulder (where collar meets shoulder) to hem
- Length of Skirt: From the waistband to hem
- Rise: From the crotch intersection and up the fly to the waistband (just above button)
- Inseam: From the crotch intersection along inner seam to inner bottom hem
- Belt: To determine the fit range, lay belt flat and measure from the base of the buckle prong to the first hole and to the last hole. Those two numbers are the range (i.e. 28"–32").
DENIM FITTING (IN PERSON)
Finding the perfect pair of vintage jeans can be notoriously difficult. In our studio, we offer guidance and a large array of styles, washes, and colors to make the hunt less arduous.
What to expect: We don’t use jean sizes as they are completely inconsistent over brands and eras. Instead, we organize our collection by measurements. We start a fitting by taking a measurement at the waist where you like the waistband to hit and determine a preferred rise (how high the jeans hit on the waist). We then pull stacks of jeans within that range to find the best hip and leg shape. Our inventory is always changing and we aim to carry options with waistbands between 24” and 42”. Bodies vary in both size and shape—the perfect pair of jeans is one that was cut to your specific ratios. While we cannot guarantee a perfect pair, we promise you will leave with a better understanding of what you are specifically looking for going forward.
We recommend that you allow yourself some time for the process and wear a top and shoes that you would realistically wear with jeans. At this time, reservations are not required—though we recommend coming on a Friday or Sunday when the shop is usually less busy.
