FAQ

What is vintage?

Vintage is considered 20 years and older. We carry a selection from a range of eras and mostly concentrate on well-made pieces that translate into the modern wardrobe.

Condition of garment?

Almost all of our pieces are secondhand and have been pre-worn. We select for quality and good condition, but expect that pieces will show light signs of wear from decades of use. We love to find evidence of care from previous owners such as hand mends and careful alterations. We examine and mend all pieces to be sure they are sold in ready-to-wear condition. Any notable issues will be highlighted in the item's description.

Where do you get your stuff?

Most items are found in and around New England, in local Vermont haunts, on extended road trips, or purchased directly from their original owner. See next question for more info on direct buying.

Do you consign?

While we do not consign at POV, we do buy select items outright. As we take items upfront (not dependent on the sale of the item), we offer 20% cash or 40% store credit of the initial asking price.

POV focuses on well-made vintage pieces and select modern brands. Items must be clean and in good condition. Please reach out to schedule an appointment or feel free to send along a few photos to get a sense!

How do I know my size?

Check out our Fit Guide for details on how we measure garments and how to compare them to items you already own. You can also use the search function (top right corner of every page) to find items in your general size by searching for the terms XS, small, medium, large, XL, XXL, etc.

Where can I get pieces altered or mended?

Check out our Materials + Care page for local resources.

What is a denim fitting?

Finding the perfect pair of vintage jeans can be notoriously difficult. We offer guidance and a large array of styles, washes, and colors to make the hunt less arduous.

What to expect: We don’t use jean sizes as they are completely inconsistent over brands and eras. Instead, we organize our collection by measurements. We start a fitting by taking a measurement at the waist where you like the waistband to hit and determine a preferred rise (how high the jeans hit on the waist). We then pull stacks of jeans within that range to find the best hip and leg shape. Our inventory is always changing and we aim to carry options with waistbands between 24” and 42”. Bodies vary in both size and shape—the perfect pair of jeans is one that was cut to your specific ratios. While we cannot guarantee a perfect pair, we promise you will leave with a better understanding of what you are specifically looking for going forward.

We recommend that you allow yourself some time for the process and wear a top and shoes that you would realistically wear with jeans. At this time, reservations are not required—though we recommend coming on a Friday or Sunday when the shop is usually less busy.

Can we collaborate?

We love to collaborate with other small businesses, artists, makers, and doers. Please get in touch!
